THE BOOK1. OF SAMUEL. Samuel the Prophet.

A MIRACLE BABY.

“BORN TO LEAD”

We move from the gentle book of Ruth into a big change for Israel as a nation.

They of their own volition changed from a theocracy, (i.e.God ruled Nation) to a monarchy, (Man-ruled nation).

God, Himself always was Israel’s ‘invisible King-all glorious’ but they desired a ‘visible king’, as do other nations surrounding them.

As Samuel aged, his sons had proven themselves perverse.

He was pressured by the people to have a human king. Please read, 1Sam 1:8. This step was a downward step.

It is based upon human reasoning and not upon Faith in God. It is also based upon what is easier, than what is right and God’s best! They chose what is God’s second best.

GOD DOES HAVE HIS BEST. BUT FEW CHOOSE TO HAVE HIS BEST, AND CANT STAND THE TEST. SO THEY STAND WITH THE REST, AND TAKE THE SECOND BEST!

AND MISS THE VERY BEST!

So we must ask ourselves: Am I doing less than God’s Best?

Are my choices made to make life easier, more comfortable and prosperous for myself, even though it’s not God’s will?

This can be read in the first two chapters of, 1 Samuel. Read them to refresh your memory. His mother was bullied due to her barrenness.

The story of… SAMUEL’S MIRACULOUS BIRTH.

She knew exactly to whom she should go to know the mind of the Lord. Eli the priest prophesied that God would grant her the desire of her heart. He would open her womb and she would bare a child. She went to the right place, to the house of the Lord, and spoke to the man of God.

Hannah pleads for a child.

That is exactly what you should do with your problems. Go to a reputable, wise man of God for counsel. Then, if the advice lines up with the Scriptures, step out in faith, and obedience.

This means you can see a godly counsellor, or a godly psychologist or ✝️ practitioner. Give all your worries to Jesus.

See 1 Sam 3:3. “The voice of God was… rare and precious in these days.”

As a little boy, Samuel was the first one to hear the Audible Voice of God. There was a long period of silence in these days. 1 Samuel 3:3.

Is God’s voice very precious to you?

Why did God bypass Eli the resident Priest?

God had not spoken to him for a long time, as he was morally responsible for ISRAEL’S DECLINE and failure to follow God’s Word and Ways.

( Except in the case of Hannah, where he still made some blunders of misinterpretation.)

Eli’s Sons were corrupt and Adulterous, but Eli had not corrected or disciplined them in any way.

Ministry is ‘not’ more important than the family! Keep the lines of communication open to your children. Always be available to speak with them at any time. If you lose your children you may lose a whole generation.

Even Godly Samuel’s sons walked not in the ways of God… They took bribes for money and took priority over serving God. What a 😔 sad and sorry state for Israel.

ISRAEL DEMANDS A KING!

This was the very reason that they demanded a King.

“Samuel was now aged… and who would take his place? He might die very soon.”

This is still happening today… Older wiser people are cast aside for less knowledgeable and unwise younger ones,

Old aged people should be honoured, loved and cared for by their family, by society, by us as Christians, and especially now in these difficult times.

SAMUEL’S LIFE.

Samuel is a significant figure. He was a Prophet under the period of the Judges. In Scripture he is remembered as one of the Prophetic voices in Israel.

Note: 1 Sam 3:24. ■■ Hebrews 11:32.

He was a great Educator and planted schools all over Israel.

Samuel the great Educator.

He anointed (Saul) the first King of Israel. He was a choice of the people.

He also ANOINTED King David, the greatest of all Kings to sit on the Throne. He was the choice of God.

David anointed as God’s choice of …
THE KING OF ISRAEL

Samuel had experienced much grief over the rejection of Saul, then the untimely death of Saul’s sons Johnathan and his three brothers, and Saul’s suicide). Samuel was Loyal, Obedient and…

“DID THAT WHICH WAS RIGHT IN THE EYES OF GOD.”

  • He was truly a, GREAT MAN OF GOD! The words of this once-popular song came to my mind.

“TRUST AND OBEY.”

“Trust and obey… for there is no other way… to be happy in Jesus… but to TRUST and OBEY!”

Amen
