ALLOWED BY GOD.
Saul the first King of Israel is one of the most striking yet tragic figures in the Old Testament. His story will challenge us if we are willing to learn from him. In someways he was very big. In other ways very little. In some ways commandingly handsome. In others, very ugly.
It is very sad because he began so reassuringly, but ended so wretchedly. His downward spiral, which ruined him, is a lesson to us, if we take heed.
These are the three main phases of his career:
1. His early Promise.
2. His later Decline,
3. His final Failure.
We will look at each phase one by one.
FIRST. Saul was a strikingly handsome man.
1 Sam 9:2. “A choice young man and godly.” He had health and hight. He gave the impression that he could possess his enemies due to his wonderful physique.
Young Saul showed highly commendable qualities of Disposition, his modesty and humility were evident.
He was discrete and obedient.
He was a man of zeal for the law. He rid the land of spiritism and witchcraft.
1 Sam 9:27. There were other fine qualities too, he was considerate toward his father. He could love in his his early years.
1Sam 28:3. He was Equipped by God in the inner man. The Lord gave him another 💓 HEART, So he became another man.
1Sam 10: 6-9.
“THE SPIRIT OF GOD CAME UPON HIM, AND HE PROPHESIED!” Verse 10.
There is an experience that we make our own, as Christians, found in the book of Acts, namely, the ‘BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.’ This experience is available to all Christians of all denominations… There is a desire, to be baptised with the Holy Spirit as a separate experience following Salvation. It is worth seeking… It changed my life.
We should all be hungry to know the heart ❤ of GOD.
HIS POWER AND PRESENCE ARE VERY REAL.
Saul was inwardly renewed by God and the Holy Spirit guided him. God also provided a band of men whose hearts 💕 God had touched. 1Sam 10:26.
Of course, he had a trusted Counsellor… and mentor by his side.
(Hey! Samuel is ‘still’ alive.)
