THE šŸ“– BOOK 2. OF SAMUEL. The People’s Demand for a King.

THIS WAS NOT THE CHOICE OF SAMUEL.

Let us look closer at the insistence of the people themselves, to have a human King rule over Israel. These were the Leaders and the Elders of high standing in the nation, men of influence. It seems that they were considering the matter long before they came to Samuel.

As we have already noted that they were expecting Samuel to die.

They wanted to have a king before he passed away. They had not sought the Lord themselves.

They had formed a committe e without careful prayer to the Lord. A dangerous move!

This happens in churches today?

People in the name of God form a committee without careful ptayer meet together to malign the man of God.

The tragic result the man of God is sacked, or extremely hurt and leaves the church! Some Pastors never recover.

“SEEK THE LORD WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND, CALL UPON HIM WHILE HE IS NEAR.”

SAMUEL was so upset! God’s answer to him was.

“Listen to the voice of the people in all they say and do, for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me! that I should reign over them.”

“Yet warn them and show them what a King will do unto them. All the adverse things that will come upon them.” Read carefully. 8:10-18 and see their response.

“No! they insisted, We ‘will’ have a King to reign over us, as do the other nations.”

Three reasons come to the fore as to why they wanted a PHYSICAL KING.

1. TO BE LIKE OTHER NATIONS.

The request becomes a demand! He followed the example of his father, worshipping the same idols his father had worshipped. 2 Kings 21:21.

2. TO FIGHT THEIR BATTLES.

They had forgotten how many times God had fought for them and WON!

3. SAMUEL WILL SOON DIE.

(Would he?)

All these choices were made in the FLESH.

The Lord put this verse into my mind…

“WOE UNTO THEM WHO DEPEND UPON THE ARM OF THE FLESH AND LOOK NOT TO THE LORD THEIR GOD.”

Choices such as these lead to regret and failure. Are you a self-determined person? How has it worked for you so far?

The following works!

It comes from the pen of the Apostle Paul.

“COPY ME… AS I COPY CHRIST!”

By the way, dear Samuel lives for a long time… yet! let us not be pressured to do what is wrong to make a right!

AMEN.

  1. Keep being lead by the Lord..the Lord wrote as He speaks through many..Isaiah 55:11..”so is the word that goes out from my mouth. It will not return to me empty but accomplish what I desire and achieve the purposes for which I sent it”. Keep warning..keep sending..His word through you is good.. to His glory and Kingdom..amen.
