THE BOOK 4 OF SAMUEL. Saul’s Downfall.

HIS DISMAL DOWNGRADE.

His: DEFLECTION.(turning aside).

DECLENSION! (decline).

DEGENERATION! (deterioration).

DISASTER! (catastrophe).

You will notice that Saul seemed to have everything in his favour to be a very successful king… except for one thing: his ‘will’ was not surrendered to God. He was foolishly presumptuous… and disobedient!

The Story:

Samuel was delayed from coming to the King at the agreed-upon time.

The Philistines were closing in to attack Israel. Samuel’s instructions to Saul were to “wait” for him, so he could offer a sacrifice to the Lord.

The army of Israel was anxious and cowardly slipped away to hide…

Saul waited for seven days, and not being able to wait any longer, he offered the Sacrifice at his hand!

  • In doing so, he violated the command of God. Only the priest was to do this, so Saul had disobeyed God!

When Samuel did come, he rebuked him saying, “Saul you have done foolishly and not kept the Commandments of the Lord.”

Saul blamed the soon coming of the Philistines, and his army going… A.W.O.L!

(Absent without leave)!

The next act was one of “rash willfulness”

God used his son Johnathan as an instrument to spread confusion amongst the Philistines. In fear, Saul called the Priest to ask for God’s guidance. However, he did not stay to receive God’s directions and rushed off to fix things himself.

Saul was about to receive some instructions from the priest, yet he was not listening, since Johnathan had caused great confusion in the Philistine camp.

Saul said to Ahijah the priest as he was turning away from him, “Never mind: let’s get going.” He rashly imposed a curse upon any man who ate any food, until he had complete vengeance upon their enemies.

It was an unreasonable fast. There was honeycomb scattered on the forest ground and the soldiers could not touch it! The men were exhausted and faint… They had been fighting all day.

Jonathan his son unknowingly ate some honey, and immediately he was refreshed, and he could see more clearly.

Read chapter 14:24-34, and see what Jonathan thought about his father’s command!

Read how Saul was ready to have his son killed, but the people would not allow it due to his great victory over the Philistines: chapter 34.

SAUL’S DISOBEDIENCE AND DECEIT.

In this instance… God had told him to utterly destroy the Amalekites and leave nothing remaining: 1Sam 15:3. But Saul spared King, Agag, and some choice livestock.

When he was confronted by SAMUEL, Saul blamed the people for not carrying out God’s instructions. He ‘pretended’ the prime cattle were reserved for Sacrifice to JEHOVAH!

Samuel rebuked him…”When you were little in your own eyes, were you not made Leader of Israel,” His initial humility had turned into an arrogance. Samuel saw through the sham and in anger rebuked him.

“YOU DID NOT OBEY AND REJECTED THE WORD OF THE LORD. FOR REBELLION IS AS THE SIN OF WITCHCRAFT. YOU WILL NO LONGER BE KING OVER ISRAEL!”

This part is so sad.

“THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD DEPARTED FROM SAUL AND AN EVIL SPIRIT TROUBLED HIM.” SAUL TURNED TO DARKNESS AND AWAY FROM THE LIGHT.

In the New Testament, we are warned ‘NOT’ to give ‘PLACE’ to the Devil.”

We see the sins of envy, jealousy and pride surface in Saul, and he plotted to kill God’s choice of a King, DAVID!

Saul finally says of himself, “I HAVE PLAYED THE FOOL” (1Sam 26:21.)

1 Sam 26:21. Everything you do as a Christian is still narrowed down to the choices you make. Ask God to reverse that 🤬 curse you have put upon yourself. We are not puppets in the hands of God. We have been given ‘free will’ by Him to learn His ways and be obedient unto them.

There are always challenges for us to face and decisions to make that result in good or bad consequences.

If you have played the fool, it is never too late to come to God through the blood of Jesus! Ask Him for forgiveness.

Thankyou that you died for me and shed your blood that I might live ETERNALLY. Lord forgive my foolish pride and change me into the person You designed me to become.

Amen.

IF YOU HAVE PLAYED… THE FOOL!

It is never too late to come to God through the Blood of Jesus.

“HIS MERCIES ARE NEW EVERY 🌄 MORNING AND GREAT IS HIS FAITHFULNESS.”

SAUL TURNED TO DARKNESS… YOU MUST TURN TO THE LIGHT, JESUS!

AND WALK IN THE LIGHT, AS HE IS IN THE LIGHT.

AND THE BLOOD OF JESUS CHRIST WILL CLEANSE YOU FROM “ALL SIN”

COME TO HIM TODAY!

“Lord Jesus, I have been walking in darkness most of my life and my life is heading in the wrong direction.” I want to walk in the light as you are in the light. Cleanse me now. Come into my heart and make me like YOU!”

As a Christian ✝️ you still may be foolish, wanting your way and you still feel empty and without hope in your life. Then come back to Jesus. He will receive you into his loving arms and freely forgive your backsliding.

You may need to fully surrender all that you are and have over to Christ as your LORD! MAKE HIM THE BOSS OF YOUR LIFE.

What you do not surrender, the world strips it away!

Then choose to obey Him without reserve. THEN YOU WILL HAVE GOOD SUCCESS… AND BRING GLORY TO HIM.

Amen.
